I finished my career at the Pentagon and upon retirement became a teacher in northern Virginia. I had fallen in love with teaching during my career when I had a special duty assignment as an ROTC instructor at both Northern Arizona University and the University of Arizona. My family relocated to Tucson to care for my ailing mother and the aftermath of 9-11 in 2002. Both of my daughters are grown, with one living in Melbourne, Australia, and the other planning to emigrate to Australia for a graduate/law degree when the country ‘reopens’. I recently retired from teaching and substitute with several districts. It is very difficult for me to live a retired lifestyle - so much of interest and pursuits that still capture my imagination. My hobbies and interests include: master gardener certification ( I am about halfway there!); travel; reading; volunteer work with rescued dogs; backpacking, hiking and canoeing. I am excited to be a part of the Vail Rotary, and look forward to meeting everyone in the coming months "
I was born and raised in Princeton, New Jersey, in a family of four (older brother). I graduated from Northwestern University and Georgetown University before becoming an Air Force officer. While serving on active duty I was stationed in some exciting and exotic locales, such as Okinawa, Japan and Minot, North Dakota!
Rev Susan Holden, an ordained elder, serves as a campus pastor for Desert Skies United Methodist Church. Her family is originally from Nashville, TN. Susan is especially pleased to be in Vail because, "even as a fast-growing area, there is clearly a culture of care for people and concern for quality of community".
